  Mirage IIIB
  by Alpha Simulations

  (Reviewed January 2002)

It was about this time last year that Phil Perrott of Alpha Simulations and I first started emailing back and forth about Mirage aircraft.  That resulted in my previewing their Mirage IIIB-RV and providing a little technical assistance with that one and each of their subsequent Mirage related releases.  They have just released yet another Mirage.  I'm very excited and proud of this one, not only because of my close involvement in the project, but because this one really captures the subtle curves and angles of the Mirage IIIB.
Alpha Simulations' new Mirage IIIB is the work of Colin Norwood.  It is based on their successful and very well designed Mirage IIIC from a couple of months ago.  The included panel, by Phil Perrott, is a good representation of the Mirage panel with full instrumentation.  A virtual cockpit for CFS2/FS2002 is also included.

Despite not having any cannons installed, the Mirage IIIB was wired and plumbed to carry most of the weapons found in the Armée de l'Air inventory.  Alpha Simulations has including a broad range of weapons loads for use with CFS2.  The weapons include a variety of air-to-air missiles, fuel tanks, iron bombs, and rockets.

The aircraft is painted in accurate Armée de l'Air camouflage pattern and colors as were applied to the Mirage IIIB beginning in 1979.  This particular aircraft represents No. 224 (13-FA) as it appeared while assigned to Escadron de Chasse 1/13 "Artois" in 1986 with subdued national roundels and unit insignia.

Originally Payware, this aircraft is now available as a free download (panel not included).

This review is mentioned in a page dedicated to Mirage IIIB n°224.

Additional markings are available for this aircraft.  These contain only the effected texture files and require the Mirage IIIB be installed first.  Complete installation instructions are included.
